Avalanche Heating and Air Conditioning knows first-hand that problems can arise in the winter months when your HVAC system is working hard to keep you and your family warm and comfortable. Here are some of the most common HVAC winter issues that can occur, so if they happen in your home you will know how to address them!If you’re experiencing a problem in the efficiency of your HVAC, there could be a few different problems. Here’s a checklist of things you want to look for if you’re experiencing a problem and to prevent problems with your A/C unit in the hot months:
- Outdoor coil blocked – most likely with snow or leaves. Be sure to always keep the area clear of snow and other debris to avoid or fix this problem.
- A leaking gutter dripping water onto top of unit which can cause layers of ice to build up and cause your unit to not work properly or at all if not addressed.
- Freezing rain causes top of unit to freeze over – once this happens the rest of the unit will also freeze over and will also affect the life of your unit.
- Heat pumps cam ice-up. While it is normal for the coil to occasionally layer in a white frost, even light ice over the winter, it is not normal for the entire unit to be iced over, including the top of the unit and the insides of the coil for an extended period of time. If this not addressed as soon as possible, it can severely damage the unit and should be taken care of properly by scheduling a maintenance call with Avalanche experts because this could mean your heat pump is not going into defrost mode.
